Revenue Tax Auditor Trainee (03890)

Employment Opportunities: The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue is currently recruiting to fill five vacancies for Revenue Tax Auditor Trainee. The vacancies are located in the following counties, three in Allegheny, one in Blair, and one in Erie.

Travel is required 25-50% of the time. Travel expenses will be paid.

Job Duties: This is entry-level professional tax auditing work of individuals and business entities to determine taxpayer compliance with Commonwealth tax laws and regulations in the Department of Revenue. An employee in this job participates in formal, informal, and on-the-job training and classes designed to develop technical knowledge, competence, and skill in tax auditing techniques, standards, and procedures. Training involves developing an understanding of the interpretation and application of Commonwealth tax laws, regulations, precedent cases, and departmental policies and procedures. Work includes participation in all phases of the audit process with a supervisor or experienced auditor and involves the on-site examination and analysis of financial books and records. Assignments may vary in accordance with individual development. As technical proficiency is acquired, an employee assists with greater independence and responsibility. Work is reviewed in progress and upon completion by a supervisor for adherence to audit standards, applicable state tax laws, regulations, and agency policies and procedures.

In order to be considered, applicants must meet Pennsylvania residency, and one of the following requirements: a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field that includes 24 college level credits in accounting; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training that includes professional accounting experience and 24 college level credits in accounting.

Starting Salary: $41,956 annually, with excellent benefits.
