The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is looking to fill two vacancies both in Harrisburg (Dauphin County). One vacancy is a temporary wage position, and the other vacancy is a Limited-term position that expires August 31, 2020.

The Laboratory Technician temporary wage position is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, temporary position not to exceed 9 months. There are no benefits with this position. The Limited-term position is full-time, with benefits, which will expire on August 31, 2020. This position will be reviewed annually prior to the expiration date and will be extended if funding is available to support the position. Duties for both titles include preparing samples and performing standard chemical, physical, or microbiological tests; setting-up, cleaning, and performing minor maintenance on different types of laboratory equipment; following oral and written instructions to carry out laboratory procedures and comply with safety protocols; and recording the results of laboratory tests on standard forms or computers and performing basic mathematics involving percentages, ratios, and metric system conversions.
In order to be considered, applicants must be PA residents, pass the civil service exam for Laboratory Technician, and meet the following requirements: One year of experience as a Laboratory Assistant (Commonwealth title); or one year of technical laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Clarification of Requirements: You may substitute undergraduate education majoring in physical or life sciences for technical laboratory experience on a year-for-year basis.
