Consortium of PA Mental Health Organizations Begins Third Year of Health Insurance Marketplace Navigator Program to Help People with Mental Health Service Needs Enroll in Health Insurance Marketplace.

U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services awards grant to Consortium to continue Navigator program in Pennsylvania for next three years. More than 2,000 Pennsylvanians enrolled in Marketplace in first two years of program.

For Immediate Release: September 8, 2015

The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service (CMS) has again awarded a consortium of Pennsylvania mental health organizations a grant to continue the successful Health Insurance Marketplace Navigator Program. This marks the third time the CMS has funded the consortium, comprised of Pennsylvania Mental Health Consumers’ Association (PMHCA), Mental Health Association in PA (MHAPA), Mental Health America of Westmoreland County (MHAWC), and the Advocacy Alliance for the Navigator program. This most recent grant is for the next three years.

Navigators help individuals in Pennsylvania understand the Health Insurance Marketplace and Medicaid/HealthChoices and complete eligibility and enrollment forms. They are also available to speak at organizations, agencies, and other groups across the state about the ACA and healthcare options available through the Marketplace. Navigators are specifically trained to help people who need behavioral health coverage, although anyone in Pennsylvania may contact a Navigator for assistance, whether or not they need coverage for behavioral health services.

Navigators can be reached at 1-855-274-5626 (toll free). Contact information for Navigators serving different regions of the state is available at www.pmhca.org. Language interpreter services are also available. The TTY number for people who are deaf or hearing impaired is 1-877-962-5593.

Open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace begins November 1, 2015 and continues through January 31, 2016.

In its first two years, the Navigator Program helped more than 2,000 people in Pennsylvania enroll in the marketplace and in Medicaid.

About the Health Insurance Marketplace

The Health Insurance Marketplace helps people find health insurance coverage that fits all budgets and needs. It is part of the landmark Affordable Care Act (ACA), otherwise known as Obamacare. The ACA requires all Qualified Health Plans to provide behavioral health services, a positive approach for people who previously did not have insurance coverage for all aspects of their healthcare needs.

With one application to the Marketplace, people can access all plan options and enroll in health insurance plans. Every plan in the new Marketplace offers essential health benefits, including doctor visits, preventive care and wellness services, hospitalization, prescriptions, and mental health and substance abuse disorder services, including behavioral health treatment. Visit www.healthcare.gov for more information. PA Medicaid information is found at www.compass.state.pa.us.
